Tennis ball is a ball designed for the sport of tennis. In major sport events tennis balls are fluorescent yellow, but they can be practically any colour for recreational play. The tennis balls are coated with a fibrous feel, changing their aerodynamic characteristics and covered by a white curvilinear oval.

In order to be licenced for regulating play modern tennis balls must comply with certain size, weight, deformation, and bounce requirements. Official diameter is set to 6.54–6.86 cm (2.57–2.70 cm) by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). Weights of 56.0–59.4 g (1.98–2.10 ounces) must be available on the ball. The only colours approved by the ITF are yellow and white, with most of the balls manufactured being a yellow fluorescent, named “optic yellow” first introduced in 1972 after research that shows that they are visible on TV.
Tennis balls are filled with air and are surfaced by a uniform felt-covered rubber compound. The felt delays flow separation in the boundary layer which reduces aerodynamic drag and gives the ball better flight properties. Often the balls will have a number on them in addition to the brand name. This helps distinguish one set of balls from another of the same brand on an adjacent court.
As soon as the tennis ball opens, balls begin to lose their bounce. You should measure the bounce for it. Modern controlled tennis balls (about two atmospheres) are held under pressure until they are initially used; high-altitude balls are lowered and cheap balls of practise are created without internal pressurisation. A ball is checked for bounces when it is lowered to a concrete from a height of 254 cm (100 inches), bouncing from 135 to 147 cm (53 and 58 cm) is appropriate in the case of marine conditions and from 68°F (20 °C) in the sense of a relative humidity of 60 percent.
